In a real world 6 is called a perfect number since it is divided by 2, 3 an 6.
7 is not a perfect number of course but in Bible it is regarded as a perfect number.
Perfect number in a real world is not perfect in ethereal world, that proves it a place nowhere.
There are, of course, several meanings of "perfect". In number theory, a number that has factors that add up to a greater number than itself is called "abundant"; one who's factors add up to less than itself is called "deficient". So those numbers who's factors add up to the original number, being neither abundant nor deficient, are called "perfect". Thus did the Greeks think about numbers.
ReplyDeleteHowever 7 is a very different kind of animal. 7 is prime. 7 is several without being huge. Numbers behave simply up to and including seven, and they start behaving more chaotically thereafter. A seven-sided shape has a beauty that is greater than that of a five-sided shape, and lacks the excessive symmetry of a six-sided shape, or an eight-sided shape. Seven is the highest number of objects that most people are comfortable holding in their minds at the same time.
Yet, I expect that seven's special enthronement most likely has alchemical roots.
Binary system is most basic way of counting numbers, like 0, 1, 10, 11, 100, 101, 110, 111....
ReplyDeleteDecimal notation is just a product of our culture. It is as a result of our trying to make the most of ten fingers.
Theoretically notations by any number is possible. Some one who can multiply any different large number, for example 6735 x 4792 instantly once confessed that he can see different figures in each numbers, for him 6735 represented by some shape and 4792 by another shape. He can count numbers in 10000 notation at least in order to multiply numbers like 6735 or 4792.
Perfect number is also a product of our culture. It seems meaningless from other point of view.
3, being Babe Ruth's number, is obviously the perfect number :-)
